I guess it is illegal in most states but I have been able to persuade restaurants to recork the bottle and let me put it in the trunk of my car. As long as I don't intend to drink any of it while driving it seems like it SHOULD be legal. After all, I've paid for the full bottle. And sometimes I'm traveling back to my hotel room by taxi (as in New York City) so not even behind the wheel.
