Winophite,

I know that it is a popular ride but it is not entirely necessary to access all the wineries. The train tracks run for a very short distance (maybe 10-15 miles?) but it is all along I-29. I mean that it is literally right beside the road. You can get to all the wineries with your car, actually easier, as the the train does not stop at all the wineries. Many people bike the route as well but I am lazy and I'm not sure I want people who have been drinking all day driving at 60 miles per hour buzzing by me.....

However, having said that, I love train rides. It is an older style train (40's 50's) so there is some character and nostalgia and someone said that the meal was nice.
