The vintage does not worry me: 1982 was one of the very best Dom Perignons ever made. What does concern me, however, is that "the label says Appellation d'Origine Controlee". Champagne is unique in being the only AOC wine that does not have to mention Appellation d'Origine Controlee (or any of its variations) on the label, whereas it is obligatory for all other AOC wines. In fact, I have only been aware of one bottle of Champagne from a cooperative with Appellation d'Origine Controlee on the label. Others might have slipped by unnoticed, but Dom Perignon has NEVER mentioned it. Are you sure it's Dom Perignon? I know that sounds a silly question, but the label for Saran (a still white Coteaux Champenois) is exactly the same shape and design, and that mentions Appellation d'Origine Controlee. In normal circumstances I would not even suggest this, since Saran is non-vintage, but I know that some non-vintaged wines have been vintaged for the US market and possibly this is one. Any way, check it out and get back to me.
