Man, that kind of lump lasts for years! Like the time I bought my last truck: I left one Saturday morning to "go shopping" and returned at noon; sat down and had lunch with wife & daughter, then nonchalantly asked wife to go with me to New Braunfels (about 40 miles away).
"Why in the world do we need to go there?"
"To pick up my truck."
(pause) "How did you get home?"
"In my truck."
(pause, then she bolts for the door to check the driveway.)
"Where the hell did that come from?"
"New Braunfels."
"Where's your old one?"
"New Braunfels. That's why we need to go up there, to drive it home."
"What are you going to do with two trucks?"
"I've already sold the old one; just need to have it here to be picked up."
Whoo-weee, Frosty the Snowman would have felt right at home in this house! Especially since I had done the same thing a few years earlier.....
That's really not so bad.... My grandfather once put Grandma on the train to go visit relatives for the weekend. When he picked her up at the depot Sunday evening, they drove to a different house across town.
"What are we dong here?" she asked.
"We're livin' here", he answered.
"But whose house is this?"
"It's your house. Your things are already inside."
He had sold the old house, bought another, and moved 'em, lock, stock & barrel, in a weekend.
I told wife that story and she just glared at me.
The poor woman has no sense of humor...
