Not only was there a virus but whatebberly it be it destroyed my machine completely. As I am now the owner of a new set of wheels. My buddies son (BidRedWines) came over yesterday and took me shopping. He said that the virus undoubtedly came from my having Coxs' virus protection as the biggest providers look best to the idiots who do this dumb stuff. He put a seperate firewall plus the Norton virus protection system so shouldn't have any more problems. By the way Norton found 8 virus' in the brand-new package as we were installing it. Pretty scary huh? Went thru 3 nice bottles whilst he was working away. Will post in the cab thread. WW

BigRedWine did good. I also use Norton and an additional router with firewall. Glad you're back online WW.

Looks like the ongoung saga of the trashed machine is about to close. After BigRedWines son Josh set up my new thingie Friday I spent all day Sat and Sun morn trying to get my E-mails sent. Nothing happened. Finally in disgust I called Compaq and the gentleman on the line told me I didn't own my machine. After assuring him I had a bill saying paid in full he informed me the machi9ne had been returned to the retailor for the same problem several weeks ago. With enoufg heat rising from me forhead to cook all of the omelets IK prepares for his churchs' breakfast meeting I called the store and asked them politely to deliver me a NEW computer boxie thing and after much hem-hawing they finally got it right. A very nice young man delivered the thing, connected it and it's now working. Josh is coming out ot put the final touches on it this PM so maybe I can go on to the more important things in life such as .....well youse guys unnerstand. WW

A bit out of context--saw a VW Beetle yesterday with signage on the door "Geek Squad". I guess that's one of the local computer problem solver companies.

I've seen a Geek Squad Beetle around here, too. I understand they're part of Best Buy, and they'll fix anything wrong with your computer - at a price of course.
