Can anyone advise me on how to assess the value of these old bottles of wine? Just found them at my in-laws house.
2 1959 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
1 1942 Robertson's Quinta do Roncao Vintage Port
1 1966 Marquisat Beaujolais Villages
1 1985 Far Niente Napa Valley Chardonnay
Thank you

Hi Etch and welcome to the board. "IF" the Wines have been stored properly the 2 bottles of 59 Moutons are worth a LOT of money. You'll have to be able to prove the provenance to the buyers satisfaction as these wines are selling in the 1300-1500 per bottle range. Not familiar with the Port producer but it should still be alive and kicking. The other wines are dead soldiers. You should call wine-bid at 888-638-8968, morrell and co. at 212-307-4200, or sothebys at 212-606-7880. These are the 3 major players in the auction business. WW

Verne, I always thought the 85 Far Niente was crap because it was SO tannic I thought it would NEVER come around so I am wondering why you think it is dead...personal experience?

Roberto

PS: if they open the Beaujolais and it IS drinkable that would be a remarkable proof of the storage conditions for the others (GGG!)

How tannic would a Far Niente Chard be in any vintage?

The vision is the Third thing to go. WW And IF you are referring to the 85 CABERNET Far Niente, ole bean, I gave up on it at 10 years and gave my remainder to my kids. They'll drink ennythin'. WW
