What wine (other than champagne) is best for celebrating Cal Ripken's home run and being named MVP of the All-Star game? (Hey, I happen to be a an Orioles fan)

Because your man is such a class act, I would reach for your best available Bordeaux, 1982 vintage (which is fairly close to his rookie year) if you have/can find one.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may have to settle for a 1995 classified Bordeaux as my wine collection has its limits. It seems I'm with the drink them, don't hold them faction.

Besides, 1995 was the year Cal Ripken set the consecutive games record! I had forgotten what year that was but saw it in a newspaper write-up of the All-Star Game. I was at Camden Yard when they were counting down with less than ten games to go to tie or beat the record. I was also there the night Cal set an Orioles record for most total bases. (And was there when Eddie Murray hit his 500th home run--unfortunately the game had been rain delayed--the same storm that spawned Hurricane Fran in North Carolina--and I was starting to leave the ball park when Eddie Murray blasted one out. I had to watch him take a victory lap on a tv screen. That is, I watched Eddie on a tv screen--he didn't take his victory lap across a tv screen.)

Wondersofwine, I escourted the g*%$F that caught Murray's 500th HR ball to the locker room to meet Eddie. He was trashed out of his mind and wouldn't trade the ball to Eddie for anything...Eddie was Pi$$ed. He ended up selling the ball to Michael Lasky who owned Psychic Friends Network for $50,000.
