Long Island Wines

Friends of mine will be visiting Long Island next week. They like to visit wineries and bring back a few bottles. I think Foodie or Innkeeper wrote recently about a particular Long Island wine he admired. I couldn't find the item under New York/East Coast wines so it may have been under Wine/Food or some other heading. The open search for Long Island wines didn't work. (They have brought back Pindar wines in the past). Their tastes differ from mine except for German rieslings and a Maui blush wine we all enjoyed. They tend to like lighter, less full-bodied or tannic wines than I do and with pronounced fruitiness. Any suggestions for a "not-to-
miss winery" on Long Island? I think they might enjoy the Gewurztraminers.

Thank you, IK. I think the Palmer Estate Pinot Blanc was the one I was seeking. I had already noted and printed out the Lighthouse Red review for my friends. I also copied a list of Long Island wineries from www.newyorkwines.org which had been suggested earlier.

Incidentally, Palmer makes an award winning gewurtz too. A visit to their place is rewarding too. Like most LI wineries they charge for tasting, but give you a healthly two oz or so for a buck or so. On weekends they usually have a combo playing on the patio while you do your sipping. Their site is at: http://www.palmervineyards.com/

Lenz also makes a great Gewurztraminer, and have them look into Paumanauk (sp) wines.
