Christmas gift

Well- I got a gift certificate to buy wine. So, I thought I would get some things I've never tried before. Have to get hubby his 20yr tawny. But what's ya'lls opinions of these? '01 Ch Doisy Vedrines Sauternes and '01 Robert Craig Mt. Veeder Cab.

Hi CG and hope your Xmas was a merry sucker. The choices look good to me the onloy suggestion I have would be the Craig Howell if they have it. Actually all 3 of his 91s are outstanding but the Howell is just a fraction above the other 2, IMHO. HAPPY,HAPPY! WW

I had the Robert Craig Mt. Veeder Cab at a Mt. Veeder tasting even in October. Brief notes:

Fruit-forward, jammy cherry on nose. Medium-plus body with balanced oak and acidity.

In typical Mt. Veeder style, it's not huge but it's very well-structured and should hold up quite well in the cellar.

Great! I got both of those and the Taylor Fladgate 20yr tawny Port.

ww- would have got the Howell instead, but it was $10 more. Figured I'd start off with that to get a taste of the winery.

I almost forgot- what would be the recommended holding times for each?

CG we had all 3 of the 01s with Robert at the winery last month. His wines are so balanced that they age their patooties off. He gave us a 93 and 96 Howell for our dinner that nite and both were still rising stars. Opened a 94 Mt. Veeder a month or so ago and still had time to improve. With good storage 10 years should be minimum for both bottles. WW
