Chardonnay

What is a good Chardonnay that does not have much of an oak taste to it? <$25 Thanks in advance.

1999 Rosemount Orange Vinyard Chardonnay.

Fabulous unoaky chard. There is a review on it in the Chard string. Its right in your range.

Also, the Banrock Station "Unwooded" Chardonnay is very good. During the process the grapes asked the winemaker: "Why don't you "branch" out a little and "leaf" the wood out?" The result is a good Chard...and that's "no oak"! [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/biggrin.gif[/img]

Excellent recommendations above. You should also know the Maconnais from Southern Burgundy are oak free chardonnay. These include Macon Lugny, Macon Village, Saint Veran, and the top of the line, Pouilly Fuisse. All are less than $25.00.

Even Georges Duboeuf produces a Chardonnay these days. It's a max of about 8 bucks, sometimes a whole lot less. Not bad at all.

Another option that I recently discovered while 'tasting' in the Santa Cruz Mtns. is the Zayante Vineyards Chardonnay. Very nice & lacking oak. Small producer, so you might have to search a bit for the wine.

My fave Chardonnay is out of Oregon - by Argyle winery in Yamhill County. But I have no idea about the oak - I've never been able to figure that out, myself. It's a very easily drinkable wine, though, either way.
