The 1952 Inglenook reminded me that I'll be celebrating my 50th in 2001 and having been born in a generally lousy vintage, I wondered if anyone out there has something half-decent they'd be willing to sell? Apart from a couple of Ports (one of which I have), a couple of extremely rare Champagnes (ditto) and the first (experimental) vintage of Grange Hermitage, the only place I know that had a good vintage that year was California, but I haven't seen any 1951s, let alone tasted them. I'll be in the States at the end of February and making a short stopover in Australia on my way back from NZ in early April, if that simplifies delivery.

BV Private Reserve was outstanding in 1951 and I'll bet it is still alive.

The Louis Martini Mountain Cabs from that era have incredible aging capability. I drank a 1955 in 1995 out of a 375ml -- it was gorgeous.

That said, Tom, I do not know any private individuals who have any of these wines. However, I do know a source for the 1951 BV and the 1951 Krug (which I have not tasted):

Thanks Bucko, I'll follow up your lead. Presumably you were born in a truly great vintage, such as 1900 or 1874...
