Dinner for 30

Hi,

I am planning a dinner for 30 and I need help picking a wine. Guests have the option of Rack of Lamb or Grilled Salmon. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir? I clearly need help. I would greatly appreciate any advise.

Hi, Kathyp, I would suggest a Syrah/Shiraz for the lamb and Pinot Noir for the salmon. I particularly like Australian Shiraz with lamb as many have hints of mint/eucalyptus flavors. Let us know if you have cost limits for the wine as this board can recommend specific tasty wines. A lot of wine has been drunk around here!

Agree with Drew on the wine selection. Might go "Old World" with the syrah, say a Cotes Du Rhone. Same with the pinot; would go with a light red Burgundy. You will need between a case and fifteen bottles, so it would be nice if you had your guests' menu preferences in advance.

Hi KathyP and welcome to the board. Been out of town for a couple of weeks so jes` gettin back in the groove. I`m a desert rat also so will give you my take on the best place to get in-house advice IMHO. Sportsman Fine Wines at 32 st and Camel-B is my store of choice because they have a very knowledgeable staff and a tremendous selection of juice in all price ranges. They can give the solid help to plan any party. ANYHOOS, sounds like fun and if you need an itenerant wino to sniff, swirl, and slug, please call. I recently had a 1998 Chateau Mont-Redon Cotes du Rhone. It was a very nice bottle. Its around 12 bucks a bottle, this may be a good one to go with.

As far as the pinot noir, Other gentlemen on this board have suggested a 1998 Joseph Drouhin Lafouret Pinot Noir. I agree with their suggestion, It was one of the pinot noirs I have had. It is also around 12 bucks.
