Read the great answers to Oregonia from IK, WW, et.al. regarding Pinot Grigio and Pinot Blanc. Over the weekend I picked up a bottle of white wine to steam my oysters in the shell (Forgot to try Bucko's Hood Canal rhubarb). The wine was: Rene Barbier Mediterranean White, White wine CATALUNYA. My question is what is it? Pinot Grigo, Pinot Blanc, Fume blanc? Oh, I also found it enjoyable to drink. Thanks

Skog, Rene Barbier is a Spanish producer of the Freixenet group and their Mediterranean White is, according to their web site:

Cuvée:
Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada.

Light straw-coloured yellow. Prepared using a cuvée comprised of Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada varieties, this wine has a delightful balance between acidity and body. Its clean and intense flowery aromas enhance its broad and lasting flavours.

Best served at a temperature of 6-8º C.

Drew, thanks for the info. on Rene Barbier wine. Spent couple of hours following up on internet sites. Also, have appreciated the dialogue on wine aging.

Let me add that I think this wine is a heckuva bargain. I find it (and Barbier's rose') surprisingly tasty, tough to beat the price.
