Drew,
I have visited the Chesapeake wine company in Canton on several occasions. Unfortunaltlly each time I go, I get the same person helping me each time and she knows less than I do about wine, ehich is not much. I don't want to be rude and ask for someone else, the owner is very knowledgeable, but I can never seem to get to him before this lady pounces on me. Any suggestions on other places or what to do in this situation? I really like the place, if I could just get the right person to help me. They seem to have a great selection of top notch wines.

I'm not familiar with that store, is it the one next to the restaurant Charleston’s on Inner Harbor east? Take a ride out Rt. 40 east to Midway Liq, just below Joppatown, and ask for Tom or the owner Stan...good shop (sleazy bar attached though)and great mixed case and full case discounts and great prices. A little further out in Belair is Ronnies on Rt. 24 across from the famous(?) C Mart, Ronnie or Bill are experts with wine. For a truly big adventure, lots of wine, with sales people who know nothing, go to Beltway fine wines, Loch Raven Blvd and the Beltway,on the way to Towson, a wine supermarket mecca. Chesapeake is a tough situation. You don't want to insult the girl and certainly not criticize an employee to their boss...maybe the next time you go and the girl approaches you, say you were in last week and didn't see her and inquire what days she has off...when she gives up the ghost visit the shop on those days! I've got lots of good shops all over the Maryland area if those aren't enough.

There are too many opportunities in the world to get hung up on a situation like this. There is a winery in the Carmel Valley that is beautiful and has a fastinating tasting room, but the pourer (must be a daughter or something) is from the same mold as your saleslady. So, next time we are in the area (early January) we will just move on to another adventure.

Maybe you could just tell the lady (politely or not - your choice) that you'd like another opinion. Then hang near the owner till you get his attention, and ask away.
