Goodness, what a broad question!! Um...one suggestion I can give is pull up as many posts as you can on this board and start reading away.

A more organized and portable way for a newbie to learn is to buy a basic book like Wine for Dummies and get cracking! Wine is such an enormous subject (as many of the posters here will tell you) that there probably is no such thing as a truly "comprehensive" site (and if there were, it would scare most people away!).

Feel free to stop by here often with any questions you have. Happy drinking!

Kevan,
Anna is right. A little background reading can be very helpful. Also, since you are in New Haven, you can go to Amity Wines at the junction of Rts 63 & 69. They have a great selection, great prices, and most importantly, a very helpful staff. The kind of guidance they can give should benefit you greatly.
