I was hoping you could help. I tried this nice light Italian red wine at restaurant a few months ago and been craving it ever since...It was light in color and flavor, but not too sweet. Sort of looked like strawberry Kool-Aid, maybe a tad darker. I am sure their are a lot of light Italian reds, but maybe someone can recommend a good one that won't break the bank? Thanks!

Hi Mom, and welcome to the Wine Board. Suggest that it might have been a Bardolino or a journeyman Valpolicella. There are many sources of both of these for under $12.

Lago di Caldaro wines made from Schiava in Alto Adige look JUST like that (and also Freisa from Piemonte) but I would be VERY impressed if a restaurant had those.

Was it fizzy at all? Lambrusco or Brachetto or even Bonarda Frizzante or Sangue di Giuda would have some efervescence as well as the color and fruit.

I'm sure if you call the restaurant they can tell you what it was.

Most buyers remember what they had on the list within the past 6 months.

If you find out, let us know. We are curious.

Guru, We have people that come into the shop all the time trying to find the wine they had just a day or two before, and they rarely remember what it was. They may remember what type it was, i.e. Merlot, Chianti, or whatever. So, we walk them by all of whatever type they remember and sometimes we get it right. We always make sure they walk out with something, regardless.

Not only do they walk out with wine, we try to steer them to the high margin wines.
