Looking for several good Italian wines

Hi there,
I am a new member and my husband and I are novice wine lovers and have recently started enjoying red wines.
My friend from Italy has introduced me to three dry red wines. Zonin is one of my favorites as it is a dry wine. I would like some other names of italian wines that are in the same category as the Zonin but maybe not so dry but not sweet either. I only drink red wine and I love Merlot and Cab.

I'm pretty sure Zonin is a producer and makes a variety of wines. You need to pay attention to other parts of the label to identify just what it is you like. Hope you hear from Foodie or Roberto with some suggestions to try. I personally am fond of Ciacci Piccolomini "Ateo" which is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Since you say you like Cabs and Merlots, you may like this Italian blended wine.

I am partial to Valpolcella and Salice Salentinos. They are great intro wines to italy. Easy drinking, very food friendly and best of all, relatively inexpensive. Also, look for Dolcettos and Barberas.

Best bet is to go to the italian thread and pull up the last years worth and check out the various recommendations.

The 2003 Le Pin from La Spinetta is reasonable and it comes in at a lower than usual price of $41. May be worth a peak.
