I have recently started to learn about wines, and you guys really crack me up (and help me learn at the same time.)

I received a bottled of red from a friend over the holiday that I have never seen in any liquor store. The name is Faustino I, 1982. It's in a frosted bottle. It also says Rioja, which I have seen a lot of posted on this site. I am a little bummed though because I have seen the word Rioja associated with making a punched?

Found some Rabbit ridge cabernet locally, thank you Winoweenie!

Nikochow, welcome. Here's what Wine Spectator said about your wine when sampled in 1992:
Smoky, earthy aromas lead to gamy flavors, with modest fruit notes. Has richness on the palate, but finishes rather light. Drink now.
82 points.
I would say given the rating and age, the wine may be on the downside or dead but what do you have to loose...like WW sez...."pop that sucker!"
www.Winesearcher.com lists several 82's for around $30 a bottle.

NikoChow, the reference to a punch was about making Sangria which is a Spanish wine punch made with dry red wine and fresh fruits and their juices.

A young Rioja would work. A finely aged wine like yours is for drinking with fine food. It is not for sipping at the sidewalk cafe for lunch or a light dinner such as might be done with Sangria.

...and they're probably still paying the Spanish Govt. today for doing so.
