I discovered Box wine!

We went to a wine tasting event here in SW NYS and gave the box wines a test.
It was Franzia..
I bought a box of their Cabernet and thought it was just fine..
PLUS it costs 14.99 for 5 liters which makes this the bar-goon of the year.
Has anyone else found this wine to be good?
The idea of the collapsing bag for the air contact seems like a great idea.

There is nothing wrong with box wines if you like them.

I haven't done much research on the freshness of the bladder (bag). But if air does get in it, it won't last as long as you think. 5L is just over 6 bottles, so please be careful if you aren't having a party.

If it starts to taste funky or smell funny, please dump it. Bacteria does grow in wine and I would hate to see you get sick just to save a few bucks.

If it passes your taste buds as acceptable than have at it!

little of issue of transportation always sticks in my mind when i see boxes - the bag has been knocked around more than a football. Because it’s more durable and less brittle than glass, storage of these wines is minimal and they are not taken into consideration for transportation, storage etc resulting in a unstettled and tested wine. Another addition is that the main producers of the wine boxes are only releasing their cheaper wines in boxes – generally the bad (or harsher (in UK anyway)) stuff.

Having said that - i had a a simple Soave (only drink available for my dry mouth at the time!) and it was ok... a paradox.

We've got Black Box in the shop - Cab, Merlot, Chard and Shiraz about $20 for a 3 liter box. Stuff is actually not bad.

We have a nature center in our city that does a wine and sunset hike. They take box wine because it's easier to hike with and when they come back, they just crush the box and it's easy to carry out.

Tastes just fine with cheese and nibbles after a hike to the lookout point while you're watching the sunset.

I recently tried some Delicato Shiraz in a 3 Liter box. Surprisingly tasty.
