Hi all!
Used to lurk around every now and then, finally decided to post....
Hmmmm... lately I've become quite fond of Yellow Tail Shiraz- it's seems to have become pretty plentiful here (Chicago)... I'd to hear your opinions on this wine...

Hi RR, and welcome to the Wine Board. Nothing wrong with Yellow Tail Shiraz; as a matter of fact enjoyed a bottle in a restaurant with braised lamb shanks recently. Even if I didn't like it, you should still drink what you like. If everyone liked the same wines, there wouldn't be tens of thousands of wines available around the world.

riff-raff, IK speaks the truth. Drink what you like. But, you did ask for opinions on Yellow Tail--here's mine.

The wine is a designed product to the simple taste (sweeter taste), which is why it is successful. After people starting out acquire a taste for wine more regularly their taste preferences generally are clarified, and the simple sensation that used to delight gives way to wanting complexity. Products like Yellow Tail are good inrtoductions.

Of course, what I am posting is a generalization. I also know lots of people who do not move beyond the simple taste of intro wines.

The great thing about intro wines is that they are affordable, easy to drink and readily available.

Since you have found a varietal that you really like (Shiraz)you can have fun and explore the rest. Maybe next time try a Cab/Shiraz blend or a Shiraz from another producer. Try a Syrah - same grape - different region.

There are a lot of wines out there. Please don't stop with just one. The fun thing about wines (vs. buttons) is that they are different every year.

There is nothing wrong with the Yellow Tail Shiraz. Eat what you want, drink what you want. So long as you are having a good time with it that's all that matters.

Just a further note on Yellow Tail Shiraz. I saw a news note the other day that says Australian wines are now the ones most imported into the US, and Yellow Tail is the brand with the highest amount coming in.

The Australians have a theory that they are living by. It's called 25/20. They want to have 25% of the American market by the year 2020. The Australian Government is assisting growers and winemakers in order to achieve this.

No wonder the French have their panties in a bunch!

Went to Total Wine today. They had a very large display of Yellow Tail in the front of the store next to the check out lane. They also had a large yellow picknic table umbrelow over the display, that had the Yellow Tail logo on it.

Then went to Lowes Foods and they had a large display of Yellow Tail at the end of the isle.

BTW, I did not buy any Yellow Tail.
