A good cabernet

Hello. I just retired from a medical device company. One of the interesting things I learned is that a once-daily glass of Cabernet Sauvignon is good for arterial blood flow. The grape combined with the alcohol forms an enzyme that helps arteries remain clear. Can someone tell me what would be good Cabernet that is not too expensive?

Hi CB, and welcome to the Wine Board. We have a whole thread full of recommendations further down the board. More can be found under Australia, etc. In the meantime a good starter cab is Columbia Crest Grand Estate Cabernet Sauvignon which is available just about everywhere.

Welcome Cbehling, look for the South African Cabernet Excelsior 2002. Retails for about $8 or less and, IMHO, is the best intro cab for new wine drinkers. Very fruit fwd and soft with hints of chocolate (even better on day 2). Low oak and a nice finish. Over 80,000 cases produced, 14%Alc. My #1 vote for event wine of the year.

Let me add the McManis Family Cab, about $8, which is by far the best under-$10 Cab I've ever tasted. I started drinking reds for the same reasons, my friend. It ignited a great passion. Enjoy!

What's the production and distribution. From my recollection, McManis is a custom crush facility that makes a very small amount of wine with their own label.
