would like some help

i enjoy wine but dont know alot about it. i was recently given 2 bottles of 82 mouton roth and would like to know what the approximate value is, how long it can be kept before it has to be drank. i would appreciate any help. thanks

Hi Roos, and welcome to the Wine Board. You may have a good friend indeed. If your 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac is in good shape and has been kept in the right climatic conditions, you have a great and valuable wine. It is fully mature and ready to drink now, and will keep a few more years. It is currently retailing for around $500.00 per bottle. Must warn that for you, that is paper value. The actual value comes when you try to sell it. The legal way to go is at auction, and you may have some luck in that venue, again if the bottles are in good shape. Around here, we would rather drink wine, than sell it. Why not plan a very special event?

Bravo IK! If I were to have possession of these beautiful bordeauxs (how does one pluralize?), there is no question, I would either shelve them or have the dinner of a lifetime.

82 Mouton has been quite bottle variable -- several bottles have been less than stellar.

Hidie-Ho Bucko, Back from 10 glorious days in Vail and had to put my 22 cents worth on this here subjic. I`ve had some terribly dissapointing moments with a bunch of 82 bordeaux. The real culprits are the few wholesalers who back then tried to save a few bucks a container and NOT ship by refrigerated containers. Know this sounds crazy, but over 50% of the wines I purchased from retailers in Denver on futures that were brought in by a certain importer were cooked. All came thru New Orleans. Taught me a very painful and costly lesson. Any ways, I agree with your assement of the Mouton. At it`s best, a monumental wine, at the level of the bad provence, PHEW! winoweenie
