Red Wines

I've always loved white wines like; Beringer White Zinfandel, Johannisberg Riesling, Liebraumilch, Piesporter Michelberg, etc. Recently I heard that red wine was healthier for you. I would like to try a red wine, but I'm not sure what to start with. I'm willing to try several kinds, to find the ones I like the most. About 10 years ago, I used to go to wine tasting parties. There was a red wine that I liked, but it has been too long to remember the name. Can anyone help get me started on some tasty red wines? Thanks!

Hi RV, and welcome to the Wine Board. You live in a large metro area (and thanks for posting your location). There are many excellent wine stores there. Call some and ask about tastings. This will give you an opportunity to try many in a comparative setting. You could also drive out to Fredericksburg and visit some of your local wineries. Again you can try many at one time. Also check out other postings on this thread. Many different choices are recommended every day.

RVsan, Welcome and I am wondering if that the red wine you speak of came from Hungary and was called RED AUSBRUCH. The reason is that it is a very smooth red wine with no bite and would be perfect for a guy like you that has tasted and enjoyed fruity white wine. Its a sure thing since there is basic sweet flavor (like the rieslings you've had)which includes red berries( think mostly cherries) in this type of wine.
