Need Help Finding Wine

HELP!.. I'm a total wine noobie and I have a situation. My girlfriend's parents are coming to visit within the next 2 weeks. She told me that they like wine so I would like to get them something special. Price is not a huge restriction. Quality and their enjoyment is the most important thing. Here is the only thing that I was told about the type of wine that they prefer.
"A dry RED wine, the more pungent the better". I do not know what their knowledge is of wines or what they prefer so what I get will be a reflection of my taste in what I believe is something that they will like. Please help.. thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Nooby and welcome to the Wine Board. From your brief description recommend a Seghesio Family Vineyards, Old Vine Zinfandel, Sononma County. This is the one that will cost around $30 versus the plain ole Sonoma County that runs around $15. Another choice would be Louis M. Martini, Gnarly Vines Zinfandel, Sonoma Valley. This one will run around $35. The '99 is better than the '00, but the '00 is still fine.
