Best Pinot Nior?

New to wine and was wondering what would be the best pinot for under $50? I do not want to try a bad pinot and be turned off to it forever.

Hi BeckJordan and welcome to the board. Yours' is a very subjective question that leads to personal favorites. At the present time I personally like Duckhorns Migration Pinot at under 30. If you go down to the pinot thread, go back a year, you'll find many postings that can help you in your quest. WW

Not only is preference in wine a very subjective subject, but preference in Pinot Noir is even more so. There are many, many styles from every Pinot region, and each price point. The best bet is to research many tasting notes (TNs) on the Pinot Noir thread as WW suggested, and see if any click with what you are looking for.

One suggestion under $20 is the Saintsbury Garnet Pinot Noir (Carneros District of California). It's a fruity wine--not too tannic or acidic. While it may not be a "wow!" wine, it is generally well received by the public. If your tastes run more to fullbodied, big wines you might prefer the Siduri Pisoni Pinot Noir which will cost closer to that $50 figure.

As WOW suggests... the Saintsbury Garnet Pinot is pretty easy to drink.

Other ones to try are:

1. Marimar Torres
2. Babcock
3. Cambria

All are pretty reasonably priced and, IMHO, quite tasty. I've always enjoyed these wines while kicking back and mellowing out... [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img]
