This is kind of a stupid question, but I’m curious about it.

I was reading about a Wine competition that took place in Long Beach CA. The judges swirled, sniffed, sipped, and spitted around 1500 different wines from around the world.

After you sipped 1500 wines, even if you spit, you have to feel some kind of buzzed...

What do you think? Can somebody does that and not get wasted in the process?

I would not be able be a judge on this kind of competition, I will refuse to spit!

I would have the same problem, but I think if you did not actually swallow any of the wine you would not ingest any of the alcohol, and would only feel a very mild effect from inhaling the fumes.

Right now I am drinking a bottle of Cartlidge and Brown Pinot Noir, and am definitly buzzing....

BTW, I also made a marianade for my steak that came out really well. It's red wine vinegar, basalmic vinigar, olive oil, Nature's Seasoning (mostly celery salt and pepper) and Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb seasoning. Excellent marianade. Excellent steak. Salute!

At VinItaly we taste about 200 wines a day and I don't get drunk, I get TIRED! About once an hour I make sure to drink a whole liter of mineral water, eat something and then pound a double espresso.

Somewhat offensive statement, but being the thick-skinned buzzard I am, I'll ignore it.

Judge 5 events a years -- no buzz -- lots of hard work.

I have that same problem. I get really buzzed from tastings.
We have wine trails in the lower Hudson Valley of NY and I can't seem to hit more than one at a time.

You don't have to swallow every drop they give you. Tasting is just that - tasting. It's not supposed to be an opportunity to partake in free drinkd. When you do tastings remember the four S's - Swirl, Sniff, Sip and Spit.

If you go to tastings and plan on endulging, arrange for the designated driver. That way, those in your group that can't bear to spit, or pour the wine out... can enjoy knowing there's someone there to drive ya'll home safely. Just take turns... and no one's left out.
