Okay, here's the deal. I don't know anything about wine other than that I really like it. However, I'm seeing my best friend's father this weekend for the first time in like 4 years and want to surprise him with a good wine. He's like a wine expert and lover. So, I'd like to get a good wine, although I'm not rich! Any recommendations? All I know is that he likes red wines.
Please help!
Thanks

Hey Melody,
I love to drink red wines, but do not know a whole lot about different kinds and which is better. Alot of times I go the package store where they sell a large selection of wines and request they tell me what is a good choice, which usually works but not always. Hopefully someone will let you know whats yummy...I will be looking forward to your answer too!

Tammy :~)

Here are some Aussie reds that will fill the bill nicely. They run from $10 - $20. Also, there are some very satisfactory wine shops in SA with good advisors, so check them out.

Tim Adams Cabernet Sauvignon Clare Valley 2000
Tim Adams Grenache Clare Valley The Fergus 2000
Tim Adams Shiraz Clare Valley 2000

Jim Barry Shiraz Clare Valley The Lodge Hill 2001

Wolf Blass Shiraz South Australia 2001

Bleasdale Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon Langhorne Creek 2001

Anything from d'Arenberg or Peter Lehmann

I purchased the shiraz/ cabernet Black Opal by Wolf Blass tonight and it is ok. It is a little on the bitter side. I do not know how to describe what I am tasting but the two wines I have liked the most are on the thick side and almost a butter taste. What do you think I am tasting?
