Perhaps four bottles with my wife. Some weeks six, some weeks two, so it averages out.

My knowledge is far, far greater than the average American, but I consider myself a modestly advanced amateur. I know a lot about a few categories and absolutely nothing about most. I am a wine Einstein in my little town, however.

I rarely drink anything other than wine. An occasional dark pub beer when I am out with friends and reasonably-priced wine is not an option.

2. More experience with German riesling and red burgundies and pinot noirs; moderate experience with white burgundies, zinfandels, Australian shiraz and red blends, and California chardonnays (which I don't drink very often any more); really lacking in knowledge of Italian and Spanish wines, South African wines, Rhone wines (I prefer northern Rhone to southern Rhone)
I supplement tastings with reading about wines.
3. Wines are a 10!
Cocktail drinks much less frequently but tend to favor blended drinks such as Mai Tais, Whiskey Sours, Daiquiris, Vodka Tonic or Vodka Collins (7 on the scale)
Beer (3 on my scale)--Guinness stout, German dark beer, or Heineken or Tuborg-my favorite domestic beers are Coors and Sam Adams
Only drink beer if I'm around others who are drinking it and not always then

Okey here are the results that I have tabulated:

1/2 a bottle to 1 bottle per nite (1 person)
1-2 bottles per week (2 people)
2-3 bottles per week (1 person)
3-4 bottles per week (4 people)
4-6 bottles per week (4 people)
7 or more bottles per week (4 people)
12-14 bottles per week (1 person)

I forgot to add mines , which is currently 1-2 bottles per week. But usually it is 2-4 bottles per week. I am going to assume that the more knowledgeable wine ppl drink more wines per week than the novice members.

And in regards to rating ones knowledge, the majority seem to rate themselves as novice or always learning.

But the more interesting results is the consumption of other alcoholic drinks , besides wine! The overwhelming winner is beer(13 votes) followed by margaritas(8) and scotch(7). Gin & tonic or martinis (4), dark rum (1), bloody mary's (1).
I wonder how this survey would look if the same question was asked to european wine drinkers. If i saw correctly, I did see a French member here.
Beer takes on a much different "taste" compared to wine, almost like a 360 degree turn around. For me, the rich and deep flavors of rum, scotch, or cocktails in general, seem more comparable than beer would be and thus the easy transformation into the wine world. About 2 bottles per week for me.

Something new every week. So many wines to try out there.

2) Novice (been drinking red wine for 3 or 4 months)
3) I usually have a glass or two of wine with dinner, usually drink beer when working on cars with my buddies, or after the racing is over at the track, and I’ll drink anything (and usually do, especially if tequila is involved), at parties. I’d say I enjoy them all equally, but for different reasons.

and I were out of town last week. And I read the
Wine Post every night after I read my e-mail.
But while I'm at it......
My wife and I drink maybe 2 a week
and I don't know sqatt about wine except what I
read here. All I know is that if it is sweet I like it, if it's bitter I don't.
And I may drink a 12 pac of beer a year.

#3 I am slowly moving away from the beers and working more on my taste for a variety of wines, but I must also admit that I have a hard time resisting an ice cold SAM ADAMS every now and then. I'd rate myself closer to a 7 preferring wines over beer at this point.

That's 2 bottles per day, 1 bottle every 12 hours, 1 glass every 4 hours @ 6-10 gulps per glass per hour. Wowwww! (heh heh)

I agree with beepbeep that wine and a good dinner goes great and other alcoholic drinks go well by itself >>>it doesnt seem to compliment a good meal well, like wine does!

2. Knowledge is just enought to know that $15/bottle tastes about the same as $10 gallon...Specially after 2 glasses..

Hi culinart. Better late than never as far as responses go, right?? I drink 1-2 a week, more if with friends who drink it are with me. As far as knowledge goes i am continually learning. Other beverages, there is nothing like a VERY dry Martini. If i cant have wine!!

#1 I'm on a college budget, so if I were to average it out, I'd say I drink about half a bottle per week.

#2 Compared to what I knew 4 years ago, I do alright. Compared to what's left to learn, I know nothing.

#3 the occasional margarita, and if the food calls for a beer I drink Shiner (Hotwine knows what I'm talking about)

I've heard of ppl having a glass or two of wine but I must try 1 bottle per meal someday (well at least the lunch and dinner meal that is, otherwise you will be up to 3 bottles per day if one was to include breakfast> Can one imagine having a bottle with your omelette, fritatta or whatever you have at that time of day ..heh heh)

There seems to be more responses of 1-2 bottles per week but more if with friends. If one likes wine what difference is there if there is company or not. It shouldnt really matter in my opinion! But to each its own! Hey WW, when you have the 2 bottles per day, is it usually a red, then a white or do you usually stick to one type. If i may ask, what 2 bottles did you have today?

Ahh... Now there is a perplexing question. WW is a self proclamed red only man. But he did slip up and admit that he may on occasion endulge in a little Chardney! Or was this an imposter? I am sure that the investigation is still ongoing by The Wine Board.

99% of the time that I indulge in SWs' is when I'm on the road. Seems a lot of restauants lists are more attentive to their whites than reds. I'll drink a good SW rather than suffering thru a bad red. As far as yesterdays selections lunch was a Honig 95 Napa cab which I've posted on previously and to accompany my incredible Italian steak and veggie dinner I had a 2000 Chateau Montelena Estate Zinfandel which I'll post in the proper slot.WW [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/biggrin.gif[/img]

1) About two bottles, though a couple more if i have people over for dinner.

2) My knowledge is comparable to that of an ant.

3) I generally stick to gin and tonics or other extremely simple cocktails, don't care for beer, other than carlsberg.

Any opinions about these 2 whites? Also for those newbies, at Fine Cooking's online webpage, they have a video clip on how to open A bottle of wine ...and they also have a wine library. Something worth checking out, especially for the new ppl to wines.

2 bottles per week looks like the overwhelming favorite among newbies. I also should have asked whether those 2 bottles per week were whites or red.? I wouldnt be surprised at all if the majority of newbies said red.
