Sangria..light wine

I'm making sangria for the first time this weekend, and the recipe says to use a "light red wine". Can anyone tell me what this means? Should I be using a Spanish wine or does this not matter? Thanks!

Look for a Beaujolais. Any will do, except a Beaujolais Neuveau from '04 which is now dead (and the '05 won't be released until Nov).

Most Spanish reds available in the States are made from the Tempranillo grape and those are not "light" wines. However, a Rioja Crianza would probably make a very nice sangria, and those are indeed made from Tempranillo.

I think a Rhone would work well. Not as fruity as Beaujolais but you're going to put a whole bunch of fruit in it so who cares. Ten bucks US or less.
