Yum, butternut squash tortilla soup, with a slight kick, but not too much.
What would pair well?

Notes show I've had Jansz NV Rose' and Deboeuf Viognier with tortilla soup. We would probably use a rosado cava, like our current fav, the NV Codorniu Cava made from Pinot Noir; that stuff works with just about everything (available locally at Sam's Club for $11.27).

Tortilla soup? Are the tortilla crushed into the soup?

Anyway, sounds like a great soup for Sherry.

You probably had the soup already and the other suggestions are good. I was just going to add that at a restaurant in Durham I had a glass of Albarino from Spain with acorn squash soup with white truffle oil (no tortilla strips) and it paired nicely. This soup was not spicy.

Albarino would be a great choice, esp. the Nora de Nevi.

(That's the 2006 Viña Nora Albariño Rías Baixas Nora Da Neve)

There was already sherry in the soup. Since I"m not a huge fan on its own, I went white. Spanish, a blend of gewertz and something else that i'm blocking on right now. And actually, the tortillas go in the soup before it is blended. It's a very different recipe but soooo good!

Have you tried Torres Vina Esmerelda? It's Gewurz and Moscat... I'm a big fan of it in the Spring.
