I went to dinner the other at Capital City Grille in Minneapolis. We bought two nice bottles of French wine (whites) which were both very nice. The gem of the evening was a 1986 Las Cases. I've only been drinking wine seriously for about five years, this was the best bottle I've had. Does anybody have any experience with this wine and vintage? Or any other bordeaux from '86 for that matter?

Let me add that my brother brought the las cases with him. The other two we bought. The restaurant waived the cork fee.

Hi Back and yea verily I've had experience with the 86 Las Cases along with many other vintages going back to the 59. IMHO and that of many of the experts(?) is that the property which is now a secong-growth should be elevaated to 1st growth status if ever there is a re-alignment. Consistantly producing outstanding wines, the owners are perfectionist who get as much out of their grapes every vintage as any producer in Bordeaux. WW

Hi B,

Leoville Las Cases IS a great producer even in off vintages... and 1986 is far from an off vintage. That said, I can imagine how delicious it was!

The last one I cracked not very long ago was from 1993 and it was very, very nice! At CDN$120... if only I could put my mitts on more of them, I sure wouldn't hesitate.

You have a great brother... does he want to adopt another one to help drink his wines?

Cheers
