I am curious how some among us go about doing meals. Do you choose a wine after you have planned the menu, or do you plan the menu after deciding which wine to drink?

Personally, I usually decide on what will be for dinner for just the two of us, and then choose a wine from my rack or fridge that I want to drink with dinner. Very occasionally I have a special bottle of wine that I want to serve, most likely to share with friends, and plan a dinner around it.

Pretty much the same here. One exception, if I have a new wine to try, even though it may not be special, will plan a meal around it. Sometimes this is just a good guess.

We work the same way. Usually, my lovely wife plans the menu, and I select the wine to accompany it. But once in a while, I'll suggest we have a special wine and need particular foods to go with it, and she'll come up with a specific menu that includes those particulars.

I'm with the majority; usually the food comes first, then the wine, unless I have a special bottle to try that relies on a certain type of food

Yep, me too. I usually have enough of a variety of wine in the cellar so that whatever the meal is I can come up with a wine for it, or something close. And if I cannot, it's a reason to run to the wine shop to get a new wine.

add me to the list- food first, then wine. As Foodie said, it can also be a good reason to go to the store and peruse...

What an easy question. I take what-ever's in the freezer, Nuke that baby and finish my bottle of cab, bordeaux, pinot, burgandy, rhone, or zin. WW
