WondersofWine,
I just saw a post that you went to Bistro 100 in Charlotte. Next time you come here, try the Dean & Deluca Wine Bar in Southpark. They have a light fare menu, and many wines-by-the-glass. The best part though, is that you can chose a wine off of the shelf in there, have them un-cork it (no fee), and pay retail prices. All California wines, but a great selection.

Kazak,
Thanks for the suggestion and I may try that next visit. I'm picky however about California wines--like zinfandels and some off-dry whites, but only a few of the Chardonnays--most are overoaked in my view.
While I have found the occasional California Pinot Noir I can appreciate, Oregon and Burgundy seem to produce better PNs and I'm not hugely into cabernet sauvignon or merlot wines. I picked Bistro 100 and Bijoux partly for the French wines on their wine list.
