Hey guys, some of you grow grapes right?? I was wondering what types you grew and how long your season is?? (what are the GDD numbers in your area?) I have been talking with a guy from the New York State AES in Geneva, and he has me thinking I may have a long enough season here for some of them. In fact, he is pretty sure I can, if I hill the vines in the winter. Sounds like a fun proposition.

Nancy,

If I remember, you are in the Midwest.

The Geneva guy has experience in cool climate growing, so i would take what he says as meaningful.

I don't live far from the Geneva Station and I can tell you that a quarter mile from me, on Keuka Lake, grows Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurstraminer, Pinot Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir,
and many other vinifera varieties, plus French American hybrids like Seyval, Vignoles, Chamourcin, ad infinitum...

Thanks Foodie, this gentleman and I have been comparing notes and it seems that I accumulate a little more heat then he does, but probably in a bit shorter time. We are checking our bud breaks to be sure how close we are.(native species since I don't have vinifera ) He has a ton of different clones there that they are trying, so hope to get some good advice from him.
Nancy
