Gundlach-Bundschu Bearitage NV Red

The Bearitage Red NV by Gundlach-Bundschu is a brilliant surprise for $10. It is a ready-to-drink Cabernet/Merlot with a touch of Zin. Cherry with some pepper. Balanced tannins.

We used to see the Bearitage in this area a couple of years ago but not so recently. Agree it is a nice wine for the $.

If you look closely Auburn you will see a Lot # on it, al la Marietta Old Vine Red. We popped a GB Bearitage, California Claret, Lot #9 tonight ($11.99 Belfast Coop). It promised cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and zinfandel; with possible traces of tempranillo, cabernet franc, and gamay. It weighed in at 13.6% alcohol. It was alright at best. Nothing to write home about. Matched with broild beef keilbasa, red potatoes roasted in OO, nuked frozen spinach, and sliced Rome type tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella and fine herbs. Food was great.

Hi AW and I agree. Jim makes a very good quaffer in the Bearitage. Seems like most of the Sonoma folks are making some good 2nd tier blends as their production has risen. Marty Griffin makes another tasty bottle in Martys' Big Red.WW

Agree about Marty's Big Red in spades. Have you tried the Lot #9 from Jim? Really think he missed on this one.

Haven't paid any attention to the lot. I normally buy a bottle of this at one of our favorite eateries as they have it on the menu at 20 bucks. So far have enjoyed whatever lot it is. Will check it when we get back. Keep these animals in their cages by any means possible. WW
