Harvest Time

On my way home from work, I drive by lots of North Willamette vineyards. The grapes are startin' to look awfully purple and heavy. Then I realized its nearly september and harvest time. Should be an interesting harvest since we've had a dry summer with some pretty mild heat.

Now all the vineyards have to do is pray for NO rain. WW

Domaine Serene is getting their first fruit (Syrah from WA) in a week or so. Broadley Vineyards is looking to September 28 as the start of their picking. I heard Mike Etzel at Beaux Freres say his PN is at 19 brix now. None of the winemakers like the little rainfalls that took place this week, and everybody has their fingers crossed for a '99-style Indian Summer. Let's hope so--a four-peat would be great!!

Lookin' good down south here...locals start pickin' this week. Now, if we could just find somebody to make these wonderful grapes in S. Oregon into decent wine...

From my vantage point here on the other coast all this seems very interesting.....

Some folks are praying for no rain to protect the harvest and other folks are praying for lots of rain to protect the forest.......

Yes mrd, the requests regarding rain would seem at cross purposes. Fortunately, cooler weather & low winds help the forest fire fighters as much as rain...perhaps more since rain often brings lightning & more fires. Of course, I side w/ the growers [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/wink.gif[/img]
