1994 Westport Rivers Chardonnay, Silver Label; Southeastern New England - $12.00

Golden color, nose with hay, apple and minerals. On the palate, tight initially but much more flush with time showing apple and pear framed in obtuse notes of hay and finishing with a spot of honey. Crisp wine which was better with food than alone. Served with steamed scrod, Great Northern beans and collard greens.

Van the Man,

I like the fact that both the Riesling and the Chardonnay paired with the scrod, beans and collards.

Do New England wines get distributed in New York State? I have seen precious few.

Sorry about that. I am so used to Wiemer being a Riesling producer I read Riesling where it clearly said Chardonnay.

Foodie -

To the best of my knowledge, there are no Westport Rivers wines in New York.

The Russells tell me they make just enough to supply MA and RI and they're sold out as it is. I think they'd like to open a few more places up but they need more juice!

That Westport Rivers Chard won a bronze at the New World International...and they had a sparkling that won a gold.

Niether of those medals surprise me Curmy. Specially not the sparkler. IMHO, they make the best sparkling wine in the United States.

I didn't get to taste the Westport Rivers sparkler (we had more than 2000 entries afterall - couldn't taste everything)...but before you place the crown as very best American sparkler, suggest you taste my current favorite...1994 S. Anderson Blanc De Noirs

Would love to Curmy. I REALLY enjoy a good blanc de noirs. Now that's one sparkler Westport is trying to make that Bill Russell doesn't quite have his arms around....yet.
