2002 Torrevento, Castel Del Monte, Rosato ($9.99 The Clown, Belfast). As Italian Rosatos are wont to be, this one drank much more like a red wine than a rose'. Alcohol level 12%. Despite the low alcohol, it was still full bodied, giving lush ripe red fruit on the nose and upfront, solid complexity in the middle, and a lingering finish.

Matched it with grillpanned smoked pork chops (the good ones from our local coop) and spinach. Just great.

Not sure what grapes are in it. My references say Bombino Nera and/or Aglianico and/or Uva di Troia, and up to 35% other red varieties!

Where are these type of rose's in the spectrum (compared to Provencal rose's)? We enjoy the Provencals and Tavels, never had an Italian.

BTW If the coop is full of pork chops, where do the chickens stay? LOL

Maybe should have hyphenated co-op. Italians, at least the ones whose wines I drink, make a more heady yet still dry rose' (rosato). Some are more like a light Pinot than your everyday pink.
