Many on this board have touted the excellent price/quality ratio of Perrin's La Vielle Ferme line, especially the red, but also the white. Well, they also made a 1998 rose (50% Grenache and 50% Cinsault) that is every bit as good as the other styles.

Of course, 1998 was a great vintage in the southern Rhone, so it's hard to go wrong. But there is also good winemaking at work here.

It's a lovely light red color -- hardly "pink" -- with a pronounced strawberry/rasberry nose. It's also dry with balanced acidity and good berry fruit, along with some subtle spicy, peppery undertones. Unmistakably Rhone, and very quaffable. And $6.49 a bottle.

Great for that picinic!

Cheers,

Scoop, LIGHT RED! Not pink or white? O.K. I`ll bite , but only because the Rouge has so much stuffin`. I`ll buy a bottle. That sucker best go more to RED than pink. Winoweenie
