Thanks for the encouragement. Although those starches are all perfectly "legal" on the WW program, I don't go crazy with them. and when I do have them, I make sure they're all whole grain, brown rice, high fiber type. But I do eat a lot of veggies and fresh fruit. I'm exercising, too. I think it's a very "safe" and balanced program. It's working for me and I'm able to stick with it. That's what counts.

Fair warning. Make sure you get your fiber if you go on the Atkins or you'll pay for it in the end.

Good for you, Georgie. I'm on WW also. I've lost 8lbs in 3 months. My prob is I use the Flex points. A 4oz glass of wine is only 2pts... I just figure it into my daily meal "plan". 1-2 glasses per day, if I want.

Well, with so many of us on diets around here, we'll be the slimmest, trimmest bunch of inebriates in the country. And to the "chosen" ones among us (the ones who can eat anything and never gain weight)

Here's a follow-up on my previous post here:

I'm 64, had an MI in 1991..About 8 months ago I went on the Atkins regimen. Because of my history, I was leery of the Cholesteral levels that Atkins might bring.

I had a lipid profile done last week and here are the results.

total cholesteral......148
HDL....................53
LDLD..................78.7
Triglycerides.........89

HDL ratio.............2.8

Needless to say, I am happy with these numbers..they are the best ones so far in 13 years.

Since losing the weight that I wanted to, I've migrated to a more Southbeach regimen..Less fat, more veggies and fruit, BUT very little white bread, pasta, do-nuts etc.

Great numbers, Will. I had blood work done last week, too, but am still waiting for the doc's totally useless staff to get their collective heads out of their butts and send me the results. Snarl.

Carole and I have been doing the South Beach for 5 weeks now (basically Atkins with less fat and a few more carbs). I don't ever weigh -- I just go by wardrobe. I'm up three notches on the belt already and do not feel deprived. I have my glass or three of wine every night -- no problemo -- I'm peeing ketones at 1+. It is just a matter of will power and desire. Actually, truth be known, I pasted WW's picture on the fridge -- it is called aversion therapy...... Way to go Georgie! Takes a lot of will power to lose that much.

My wife stuck with the Atkins longer than I did. But she hit a wall at about 25lbs. And of course with the vacation last week we blew what diet we were still on.

We did find low carb foods that we like and still incorporate them in our diet, and now that were grilling more we are tring to eat better.

A local talk radio host I listen has been on the Atkins for about 2 months, and he said last night that he was switching to LA Weight loss. When he asked them how to make the transition, they told him to carb out over the week end. To that he replied; NO PROBLEM!
