Had a colonoscopy at the VA Hospital in Togus, ME this morning (a la the Prez). I had two small polyps on my colon which were discovered during a scopoptomy earlier this year. They didn't have the capability to remove them then, so they had to schedule me for a colonoscopy to remove them. Other than the fact I couldn't eat any solid food yesterday, had to swallow a pint of pink stuff, and a gallon, yes a gallon, of what tasted like salt water, and make fifteen or so trips to the john last night, and then get two ememas this morning; the procedure itself was a piece of cake. They did give a sendative that was allegedly eight times as strong as morphine. Therefore, I can't drive for 72 hours, go near a stove, or drink alcohol, a refrain from other things for 24 hours. Have had no wine since the SW late Sunday PM. Other than that all is AOK.

Glad all is well, IK. The medical profession is most adept at coming up with new and evermore unpleasant indignities to heap upon us (Buckster probably INcluded), all in the name of doing what's good for us. But that kind of good news falls into the category of things that are indeed priceless. Mighty nice.

I've been through this not to miss experience once myself. The drinking the "salt water" to purge was the worst part.

glad to hear that all went well, IK. my patients don't like drinking the pink stuff either. One sneezed and gave me pink mascara which was really hard to get off. Will add you to the intention list tonight! WD

Too bad you did not see my wife, the GI doc. The gallon of Go-Lightly is old news.... now it is just a small bottle of Phosphasoda.

Sounds more gruesome than what I have to go through in two months, IK. I just have to take the 3 oz. Phospho-soda, not the gallon of stuff. Also, the doctor told me I'd just need a ride home afterward, nothing about 72 hours without driving.

Well, yeah. I have to undergo this procedure every three years--colon cancer in the family. That 3 oz phospho-whatever is as bad as anything I have ever swallowed, including Thunderbird and Boons Farm.

I wondered out loud why with that enema stuff, and the dehydration that follows, those of us who must succumb to this injustice shouldn't do it the night before in the hospital. HMO is the answer--they refuse to pay for a one-night stand...

Egads, I'm reminded there's an annual physical coming up in a few weeks. Not only will Nurse Brunhilde try to induce a heart attack with her treadmill, but the doc will shoot snooker with his sigmoid-whatever. But I'll take those over what you guys have described!

Another with colon cancer in the family, but my last 3 annual 'scopes have come up good so I don't have to go back for '3 to 5 years' (which I read as 5 years). Note that a daily aspirin was ordered by my doc last time, and calcium supplements were strongly recommended the time before that.

Anyone getting the gallon jug of Go-Lightly should promtply throw a fit with the doctor/pharmacist. The phospho-goo Bucko mentioned works well and is a lot easier on distinquished wine drinkers. And you and me, too. After all, just because we happen to have a lot of corks laying around the house doesn't mean we ought to have to re-use 'em.

I think this is in the same ballpark- Next Tuesday I'm having a sonogram done. I have to drink a quart of liquid 2 hours before and then wait until after the sonogram is done before I can use the potty! They press down on your abdomen with the probe and it is not comfortable at all. I'll probably have to kick the technician, ha ha.
