Along comes a guy who's trying to codify wine scores awarded by critics. See http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060305/ts_alt_afp/afplifestyleuswineconsumer

Sounds a lot like alchemy. Sure, this system will help a consumer buy wines that the critics like, but not necessarily those that HE likes. Humbug!

"The hope is people become more sophisticated and start making their own decisions."

Funny statement from this guy. I wonder what decision he is talking about. It couldn't possibly be the decision - not to buy his snake oil.

Just what I need -- some number cruncher to tell me if I like a wine, and whether it had any value....

QPR per se is nothing new. I've been reading about that for years now. The article make it look like he discover the Mediterranean Sea

Perhaps a QPR quotient needs to be established to measure the QPR of the $35 spent for the QPR newsletter.

Actually, he also puts out a monthly (free) email newletter that's of some value. It's a notice of the wines being released each month by wineries - mostly CA, OR and WA. It's helpful to see what new stuff is going to the shops, and available from the wineries direct. It also has a directory of winery newsletters and other such stuff. Besides being somewhat helpful, it's FREE.
