Dananne, I don't know if you already know about Sam's Wine in Chicago; it's a wine and liquor superstore in Chicago, and it may be worth a visit on your way up to Wisconsin. Their website is http://www.samswine.com. I read elsewhere on the board that you have a Chicago background, so maybe you know about this place already....

In Milwaukeeland, there aren't any wine stores (or liquor stores that sell wine) that I would consider superb. There are a few pretty good places, though. In the downtown area to the west of the Milwaukee river, at 717 N. Plankinton Ave. (near the Grand Avenue Mall and several hotels and arenas), is Mo's Market- A Place For Wine. It's a better place to taste and hang out than to buy, though some wine is sold at retail.

A very welcome addition to the Mke wine scene is New World Wine Co. at 632 E. Ogden. This is in the East Pointe neighborhood, just north of downtown on the east side of the river. As the name suggests, they specialize in New World wines, but there are some items from the Old World, too.

I hope this helps some...

Congratulations on your retirement, Georgie. Sometime in April 2011 for me.
Similar to Dananne's story--when my sister was a new bride she taught French in a middle school. Her husband was a dental student at the University of Nebraska. He had sort of a baby face and when he came to pick her up after school one day the janitor told him that STUDENTS were not allowed in the building after hours (and this was MIDDLE SCHOOL).
