Tornado

Since a couple of you were thoughtful enough to call and see if we're OK, it got me to thinking that perhaps I should just post a general "we're OK" message to others. For anyone who is interested in seeing just how close it came to our house, take a look at the map I link to below. On it, at the bottom, there is a green area which is Grant Park. Just to the left of the park, you'll see a grid of neighborhood streets. In that grid, south of I 20, between Grant Park and Hill Street (labeled on the map), you'll see a little 1-block street that looks like it divides a block in half. That's my street. So, really, the path the tornado took was just a few blocks away, and there is considerable damage outside of the direct path from flying debris.

Great to hear that you guys are okay! That was indeed very close. Would've scared the @#$!@ out of me!!! Lots of debris in the area?

Glad you both are safe and sound. The crane accident in NYC destroyed a restaurant that we are pretty sure we went to a rehersal dinner a few years ago.

I did wonder about you Dananne but thought you didn't live very close to downtown Atlanta which seemed to get the most damage. (started to type that as "MOIST damage" which is more a hurricane aftermath.) Anyway, thanks for posting.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, we're right smack in the middle of the downtown area, just SE of the Capitol and between the zoo and Turner Field (we can hear the crowd from the back porch, and the HR fireworks always frighten the dogs, so every Braves HR is both celebrated and cursed). Not much actual damage to the S of I 20 (the main E-W interstate that runs through downtown Atlanta), but there seems to be debris strewn everywhere -- insulation in the trees, signage, shingles, etc.

The weird thing is the timing when it hit the GA Dome -- if that Alabama player hadn't hit that last second 3 to send the game to OT, all of those fans would have been spilling out onto the streets outside just as it was hitting. So, I'll no longer believe it when my wife says sports aren't life and death!
