Was at an old style cocktail bar so ordered my favourite cocktail of the moment (it's actually be over a year in that position), the Last Word, a Chatruese based cocktail that just sublime (and yes it has a lot of lime in it too).

But was in the mood for some bitters and asked the mixologist behind the bench for her favourite Bitters cocktail. What she described was an old rediscovered formula from Kentucky and it did not sound all that enticing, but man did it work. Bourbon, Cointreau, plus the bitters (Angostura and Peychaud's), and half a glass of champagne. The sparkler gave the cocktail some up front lift but in fact gave the bitters a bit of volume to move around in. by the end of the sip (yes this is a sipper), the brooding nature of the bitters came back to the front. This show repeated itself with every sip. While it won't displace my Last Word, (or elegant speech, or Final Ward), if will give me something else to think about ordering at the bar.
