For Viognier Fans (all one in the world)

I love this grape. Over the years, one US producer has seemed to do pretty well with the varietal, Sobon Estate. They offer a nice wine at a nice price. The 1999 follows suit.

Very floral, lots of honeysuckle aromas and flavors, some peaches thrown in for good measure, with a long, brisk finish. Believe it or not, it was a nice match for stuffed peppers tonight.

So, what does this gem cost?

Just received one from Pops along with one of their 1997 Syrahs. Can wait to try them after a proper rest. Both cost $14.95. Pops claimed "regular retail" to be $18.69.

$14.95 is what the winery fact sheet says is recommended retail, only 1,150 cases produced. Pop's is stretching the truth a bit.

IMHO, the California Viogniers are too high in alcohol content. I much prefer the French variety.

Unfortunately, the French Viogniers are fairly difficult to find here in the US.

I expressed this opinion in another thread concerning a match with food. One of our fine members critiqued my comments saying the wine was much too strong for the food suggested. He, however, failed to realize I was talking about French Viognier not American.
