Vineyards in France

Has anyone visited any of the vineyards in the South of France? I will be traveling there this summer and wondered if anyone had recommendations.

My advice would be to buy Oz Clarke's Guide to Southern France -- it's up-to-date, informative and it gives good day-trip strategies.

I'll try to come up with a few names off the beaten path.

If you are of college age, and who isn't; you might check out the summer program called College International de Cannes. This is a summer only program run by the University de Aixe. You should be able to find out about it at a nearby campus. The program includes tours of entire region including the vinyards.

I'll be there as well. In July and August. There are many wineries to confront. Your best bet is to go to southern Rhone. It There you will find the best wines Provence has to offer. You would feel like a kid in a candy store at Chateauneuf-du-Pape. And up and across from there is Gigondas, the first town of the south. Great wine and history. They are both just above Avignon. And another place down by the Med is Bandol. You should have good luck at most of the vinewards there.
