Brickish brown in color, nose of tobacco, leather, cedar, wet woods, smokey, etc. There is precious little fruit left in this thing but still smooth and a bit sweet (like cane sugar). Still a good amount of acidity. Took a bit to blow of some initial funkiness and it was hot at the end initially, but time to drink up I think.

No, you're spot on. This was not that good of a wine on release, and it was an early drinker that should have been consumed 3-4 years ago IMHO.
