Hoo-rah, hoo-rah. Dan Berger devotes just about all of his newsletter today (March 22, '07) to Riesling. He says it is not a fad but a trend. Chateau St Michelle and its offspring produced 711,000 cases last year, and KJ 170,000. Sales of Riesling from Oz are soaring.

He is called for a North American Riesling society that would essentially "control the sugar." By this he means to maintain strict control of labeling regarding RS as it relates to pH and TA. This would allow consumers to know exactly what was in the bottle. With no wine is this more important than Riesling.

He quotes Ted Baseler from CSM and Jim Trezise from the New York Wine and Grape Foundation who support the idea.

He even quotes Willie Gluckstern who predicted all this eight years ago in "Wine Avenger", a book I've always loved.

Three cheers for Riesling!!! If you have to drink an SW this is the one to drink.
