Tried a tasting at Bonterra Wine Bar, Charlotte, NC. (My notes from Charlotte Wine and Food Weekend will be posted over the next few days).
Medium gold color. Nose reminded me of German Eiswein--flowery and fruity and honeyed. Flavor of candied orange zest. Honeyed nose. Best in small sips, somewhat chilled. Could be cloying in too large a dose. Botrytis and floral scents. Nice wine although it commands outrageous prices. (I know, I know...it takes many clusters of grapes to produce a single small bottle of this nectar.)

I agree, Ice Wine does often come with some sticker shock that's for sure, no matter how much you think about how it's made. I had a trusted owner of a wine shop in Paris pick out a German Ice Wine for me a few years ago, 375ml, $240! But after he showed me the history of the winery and the notes on the wine I just smiled and handed him the plastic. What can a gal do? Inniskillen also has the serious "name" power to back their price, and I think it's about where it should be, all things considered. I am aware that year after year when I'm in Canada for various wine events it seems to always stand out against the rest. One of my favorites!
BTW- The next (under $40) Ice Wine you get your hands on try bit of it splashed into a glass of sparkling wine...
Yummy!

Inniskillin does some good work with other wines too. Cabernet Franc comes to mind, as does Pinot Noir.

Another Ice Wine maker of note on the Niagara Peninsula is Jackson-Trigg. Of interest, there are forty four wineries there on the peninsula.

CCK, what was the Eiswein for $240? To think when I lived in Germany I could occasionally get a half-bottle of Eiswein for about $40.

Jackson-Trigg's still wines will be posting in Washington State very soon! Very exciting news for me! The Shiraz is a great example of what they can do up there, and Alan Jackson is one of THE nicest people in this industry.
Has anyone tried the JT sparkling ice wine?

Per the ice wine- I am on the road for a while and do not have any idea what it was called...
When I get back to Seattle I'll take it out of the cellar (must do this anyway as I am moving) and let you know. I do know it was a very limited bottling and won some very important award(s) I believe I have some press in its little wood box that it has called home for a few years now...
Most Ice Wines I've tasted in Germany or here are around $50-$110.
This was not readily availible juice and I am somewhat of an addict. And well,
honestly, It was Paris. I wanted something really special to bring home and I had already bought two pairs of shoes, some (lots of) chocolates and fragrance. Trust me: I would never spend anything like that here!!!

Was the clerk in the store cute? WW Still have a few bottles of the 83 Germen Eisweins left. Kick-Patootie juice.
